Ten systems, plants, and setups that actually work — with real methods, real ratios, and honest assessments of what they replace and what they cost.
A curated one-page reference for ten land-based techniques. Each entry includes the exact method, the ratio or measurement, and what it replaces — no filler, no theory without application.
What this is
Of and With is two ideas. Living of the land — drawing from it, depending on it, eating and building from it. Living with nature — not controlling it, not fighting it, working in relationship with it.
Every product reviewed here answers four questions: Does it genuinely reduce what you depend on? Is it built to last — repairable, durable, warrantied? Does it have lower impact than what it replaces? Are the claims verifiable with real numbers? If any answer is no, it doesn't appear here, regardless of the commission.
Verdicts are BUILDS or SKIPS. Techniques come with ratios and methods, not just ideas. This is reference material — content to save and return to when you're ready to build.
Where this goes
Of and With is an umbrella. Each covers one relationship with the natural world — its own field guide, its own methods, its own product line. The Land is first.

Water systems, filtration, rain collection, and irrigation — building independence from the municipal supply, one system at a time.
Soil, composting, natural building materials, and construction from what's underfoot. Working with the ground, not on it.
Weather patterns, solar cycles, wind, and seasonal tracking — reading what's above you as the infrastructure it actually is.
Off-grid power, solar and battery systems, and building real independence from the grid — the numbers, not the marketing.
